crank sensor

[missing link]

On my 1989 GMC K2500 5.7 tbi where is the crank sensor or does it even have one ,I've checked the manual but no info( Haynes)?

There was no crank sensor on TBI. Wasnt used until 1996 when SEQ injection was used.

Get a Heims the factory service manual for the correct info. The rest are poor at best.

On vehicles that do have a crank position sensor, it is typically located right next to the crankshaft harmonic balancer pulley. My 99 Mazda 626 V6 has such a sensor and on the back of the harmonic balancer is a round plate with teeth. The crankshaft position sensor is a small magnetic sensor mounted in close proximity of these rotating teeth.

On the Jeep 4.0 it's located on the bellhousing driverside at about the 11 o'clock position, takes the crank position off of the flywheel/flexplate. And it's a sob to get to the 2 bolts that hold it in place. Just be careful not to drop a bolt into the housing. Been there done that.... a few times.
