New Guy w/new to me Suburban

As of yesterday I am the proud new owner of a 2000 1500 Suburban LT 4x4 with 64k miles. It's loaded with leather, heated seats, center buckets, 4.10's, etc. With the third kid due to arrive at the end of this month we were looking for something to better accomodate the growing family, and I think this is going to work. :D Its in great shape and the owner was able to provide all service records including oil changes @ 3k OCI's. Nothing major seemed to jump out, the thing drives great and there is little to complain about. :dupe:

This is my first GM vehicle so I've been lurking here a little and doing some reading to help better educate myself, but there will always be noob questions so I'm here to fill that roll.

Torque managment: I've read up on this but I'm curious if this vehicle is affected, and when they started implementing the TM software. I'm still recovering from tax, registration, etc. but planning on an economy tune in the near future and I'm trying to decide for myself if the TM needs to be on, off or somewhere in between.

Auto Ride: Does anyone know the RPO so I can check to see if I have the Auto Ride suspension? This is to satisfy my curiousity more than anything.

Chrome Rocker Panels: I hate them for no other reason other than I don't like how they look. I want them off, so if anyone has any experience or has attempted to do this I would appreciate your input on how to go about removing them.

Any other recommendations (considering mileage), tips, tricks and/or free and inexpensive mods anyone has to offer will be greatly appreciated. Pics to come in the next couple days.

Thanks in advance,

Andrew

Welcome, fellow '00 Suburban owner here with three kids (another on the way)! Not sure on the autoride and chrome panels as mine does not have it.

Only problems I have had in the last 80k miles is:

ABS module failure at 50k (approx.)

Alternater failed at 60k (approx.)

Do a search on the ABS failure so you know what fuse to pull when it happens so that you can take your time getting the best deal on a replacement.

Thank you for the replies, I appreciate it. I'm almost positive the chrome panels are aftermarket but either way I still want them gone. I'm going to hit up a few local body/paint places to see if they have any suggestions. Thanks for the heads up on the ABS and the alternator, I'll be sure to take the necessary precautions. :jester:

Now that I think about it, you may try heating up the chrome strips with a hair dryer on high heat (or a commercial heater) to see if it loosens up the strip. If they were installed with double sided tape, you may be in luck.

Good luck!

I think you could handle removing them. If you are lucky they will just pull off with minimal residue. Heat them up first as mentioned.

If that does not work get some fishing line and "floss" inbetween the panels and the paint. It will get the chrome off but leave about half the tape. Then get out the hair dryer, goo gone, and after wearing your fingers to the bone it will be done.
