Intake Manifold Gasket-2002 Sub

Check engine light came on yesterday; took the Sub to the dealer and he says it threw a code showing an intake manifold leak. $450 bucks to replace the intake man gasket...at 58,000 miles??? The spark plugs don't wear out for another 42,000 miles. Does this sound right? What could have caused it? What can I do to avoid the same issue in the future? BTW, it is the 5.3L engine.

I think I got the vehicle they build on Friday after having boiler makers at the local pub.

New trans at 24,000 miles

New steering shaft; twice

Replace parking brake assembly; twice

Intermittent no start issues

I really like the vehicle when it is running, but this is getting crazy

Here's what I found out. Seems the codes p0171 and p0174 were thrown. They replaced the intake man gasket and then charged me 130 bucks for an Air Induction Cleaning Service. Does this all sound copacetic?

Those codes were thrown when my gasket was bad.  Don't know about the $130 air induction cleaning service though.

Thanks for the info; it does make me feel a little better. I wanted to make sure the dealer wasn't ripping me off.

I agree as it sounds like the place is helping itself to some of your money it doesn't need. If it was running good before why clean it?

Do the gaskets yourself. I just got a new set off eBay for $28 bucks. FelPro also makes a replacement gasket that will work. Bad thing is the dam things arent terribly cheap.
