hood shake

I drove my truck in heavy crosswind weather today and saw that the hood was shaking at 75 - 80 MPH speeds. This is the first time I experienced this. The wheels are balanced properly and there is no vibration in the steering wheel. I talked to somebody who has an '05 2500 HD truck with the same hood, and he too complained of hood shake at higher speeds under similar conditions. The '06 1500 series trucks use the 2500 series raised hood.

 

Has anybody reinforced the inside of their hood with crossbraces, etc., to prevent this shake, or do you know of any hood reinforcement kits that GM or somebody else sells for this purpose? This must be a widespread problem with these hoods. They are simply made too flimsy to be sturdy enough under all driving conditions. Somewhat frustrating on a new truck.

When it was new, the hood on my truck would vibrate at higher speeds. I wouldn't say that it was shaking though...

 

What I found out was that the rubber stops above the headlights, weren't adjusted properly. I raised them both up a little bit, so that the hood was tight when it was closed, and that solved my vibration/flutter problem

I looked at those this morning and will try to adjust. What I described as "shake" was not violent shaking, rather a noticeable movement, but annoying nevertheless. The reason was that it was particularly windy that day and I was driving into a heavy crosswind. I may also add another pair of rubber bumpers on the fender tops between the hinges and the existing bumpers.

I've seen the same thing with my 2004. It's definitely a combination of the ligher weight hood and loose bump stops. I also adjusted my stops a turn or so on both sides and so far I haven't noticed the hood shaking since.
