Stuck hood on 98 Sierra

I have a '98 GMC Sierra 3500 with a stuck hood. The latch release handle has tension and I can hear the latch mechanism click when pulled by an assistant, however, the hood doesn't pop up to the secondary latch. How to I manually release the latch?

Try giving the hood a good whack with your hand on the front just to the passenger side of the middle crease. This is especially effective if the truck has a bug deflector. You might need to has an assistant hold the lever out, but most of the time the simple whack works. Once you get the hood up look for anything that might be jammed in between the hood and top of the radiator supports all the way from side to side.

after you get it open grease the heck out of it

Had that happen on my '95 due to dirt and rust. Had to stick a long screwdriver into the latch and tapped and smacked the daylights to release the latch. Once the hood was raised, I wiped down the latch and sprayed WD-40 and litium grease all over the pivot points. No more problems afterwards.
