In-Dash DVD in Cubby below lighters

I have an 05 silverado, and want to install an in-dash DVD player in the cubby below the cigarette lighters. I have heard it is about Din size, and would need some slight modifications.

 

My question.

 

There is a plastic piece in behind the cubby that doesn't look like it does much. It does, however, restrict the distance a unit could go in to about 5.5 to 6 inches. Has anyone removed this plastic (with saw or something) to allow flush fit of Din unit there?

 

Can anyone detail their install? I don't want a unit to stick out.

yup, you can cut it out. Just go slow as there is a harness back there.

looks like you have dine some nice work there. I think y Yukon form the back seat probably looks like what yours was before you started, though I want mine to look more like yours

 

Anyway, I have two questions. The most important one, I am trying to unlock my DVD player, to play foreign movie on it, but I can't even work out what model it is to start searching for (thats how I found your post actually).

 

Q1 / Does anyone out there kow the model number of th eDVD player, or where I can find a region code crack?

 

Q2 / Were yu able to put the screens in yourself and get all the wiring to work, or does it take a lot to ifnd the signals etc?

As to your questions--I dunno the model number of the factory overhead DVD player either; I think that someone (either here or on one of the other forums) has pics of the overhead unit detached from the roofliner...maybe it might show the model number of the player.

 

The screens were already built into the headrests (they're Vizualogic combo monitor/DVD units), but not too difficult to install...just make sure you tap the power wire into an actual "hot" wire, not one that reads "hot" on a voltmeter but turns out to be one of the many Class-2 databus wires.
