installing a electronic brake controller

Hey there. I am trying ot install and electronic brake controller on my 2002 chevy silverado 4X4. I can plug the brake controller in. I can see the blue and red wire under the hood but I dont know where to connect the blue and red wires. Also does the other end of the blue nad red wires go to the rear of the truck. I can see the voiled up wires just not to sure.

Did your truck not come with the factory trailer wiring? All you should have to do is use the pigtail that comes with the truck to connect the brake controller to the connection box on the floor next to your brake pedal (you can get a pigtail at the dealership if you don't have one). As for under the hood, you shouldn't have to do anything except MAYBE put the fuse in for the trailer brakes. Everything else should be already wired up.

It came with 6 wires coild up by the spare tire. It has the plug under the dash to plug the controller into and then inside the fuse panel under the hood it had the blue and red wire... just not sure where they go and then if I have to run them to the rear...

So if I understand right your truck probably did not come with the factory tow hitch and "plug" to connect a trailer. So does that mean you have to install your own plug on the back of the truck?

 

At any rate, you shouldn't have to run any wires to the back. They should already be routed.

 

Not 100% positive, but red wire should be your hot wire and blue should be the brakes (actual brakes, not lights). Like I said though you shouldn't have to route anything.

 

I've only ever seen trucks with tow packages so I'm not sure what happens when that isn't installed.

thats correct I dont have a plug and i installed the hitch myself.
