Need Help with A/C Compressor Noise

This is regarding an 03 Yukon.

Just looking for some input before I take the truck in so I can point "them" in the right direction.

The A/C compressor makes a grinding sound, almost sounds like the fan hitting the shroud, when you accelerate. This will only go on for a few seconds or so and then stops. The sound will stop and does not occur when the A/C is switched off. I do not notice any noise at idle.

Am I right to assume the clutch bearing is shot?

Does anyone know the going rate to have a compressor replaced.

And, the fan speeds do not work. Is this related to the compressor or is it the resistor under the dash?

Thanks in advance,

Pete

How do you know it is the compressor?  Just does not sound like a bearing, they usually make a constant noise in failure.  Could be idler wheels too.  take the belt off and turn each driven device by hand.  you will feel a bad/loose bearing.. fan and noise under hood unrelated.

I replaced my clutch bearing 6 months ago. parts 13.00 at napa and auto zone lent me the pullers free. took about 2 hours including requisite beer break.
