Tailgate Cables (need a fix)

Recommended Posts

I replaced my tailgate cables with the new GM recalled units and they are bowing out from between the tailgate and the tail light lens. I installed them per the markings on the cables.

Anybody got any ideas?

Fold them where the bend should be, and put a rubber band over it, after a while they will take on the new shape, since they are still new they won't bend as easily, which causes them to push out, training them into their new position will cause it to stop. If that doesn't work heat them with a hair dryer while bending them as above might help speed the process.

Ah! so I'm not the only one with this. Mine only sticks out a little on the pass side, so I just let it be for now.

Sounds like you got them on the wrong side,Try switching them around.

I see this all the time here at the dealership.

They are stamped on the end where they bolt onto the tailgate with either an "LS" for the left side or an "RS" for the right side.

(They are also stamped up top where they go onto the body of the bed with an "L" and an "R" but those markings don't mean anything)

I know you said you installed them per the markings but I didn't know which markings you were going by.
