buying tires online?

Has anyone here bought there tires online. I'm going to be buying tires soon 285/75/16 and I've seen some pretty good prices on line but I'm curious about the shipping and handling charges. can any of you tell me roughly how much the shipping was to get your tires and from where you got them? thanks allot

I have used Tirerack and will do it again. Go to their website and go through the order process until you give your credit card #. IMHO shipping is reasonable. Be sure you shop around to find someone to mount them at a good price.

I bought some snow tires already mounted on rims from tire rack too. They had a good price (especially for the steel wheels).

Like Bill said check at your local tire shops about mounting first. Some places are very anal about mounting tires that you didn't buy from them.

Well I found a guy in town here that will sell me the Yokahama Geolander +2's for $108.00 a piece. I can't get that kind of price on line. I'm going to look around on monday for a place to mount them on my used/new 16X8 python rims (thanks tinman ) if all else fails I'll take them to the local Sunoco shop and they will put them on for me. has anyone used this tire in the 285/75/16 size? if so how did you like them?

I ordered mine from 4wheelparts.com and got them for a great price, couldn't beat it and besides most stores around here wouldn't carry x-terrains. The shipping is normally about 80 bucks for all 4 and it took under a week to get here from the date of order.

I've purchased from Tire Rack on a number of occasions. Tires and wheels for my wife's car, tires for my last truck, and even tires for my travel trailer (although the trailer tires aren't on the web, ordered by phone). The savings were significant each time, even with shipping. The local tire dealer that mounts my tires is not able to meet the deals I've gotten.
