I think Tom is right about taking the truck to the dealer.  Sorry you forgot the code  :)

Welcome to the forum and enjoy yourself here.  :)

A lot of times the code is the last 3 or 4 digits of the vin depending on the numbers. Since I've been doing the Steering Wheel Audio Controls installations, I've run into it a lot and the owners don't know the code. If it's a brand new vehicle it's almost always the vin.

If your truck was owned by someone else, you'll have to go to the dealership, but I would try the vin first.

Another LOC question - about 1 out of every 100 times I start my truck I get the LOC message

on the radio.  I know the code so it is fixed quickly, but the dealer cant find out why the radio is losing power from time to time.  They cleaned the connectors and this seemed to work for a bit but the problem has come back.  Any thoughts?

Have they replaced the radio yet? I've run into a couple of radios that were defective. They had screwy circuit boards and wouldn't hold certain functions every so often.

I believe there was a TSB on radios that would lose time...  The fix is to replace the radio.

Ask the dealer to search on the clock or losing time key words.

Thanks for the suggestions - next time I have my truck in the shop I'll try and get the dealer to agree to replace the radio.

This is happening to me, too. 2002 Tahoe and about

3 times over the last year, the LOC comes up on

the radio and it doesn't turn on. It also loses time

a little. This past weekend the compass had to

recalibrate. I've checked the main electrical connection

and they are tight. This is the only thing I've noticed

wrong with this truck after 1 year.

I changed the battery and am unable to unlock the radio. (Yes I did lose the code). Is there a way to unlock the radio other than taking it to the dealer?

Thanks - HPD

What year model truck? pre 2003?

A year or two ago I think I remember seeing the unlock procedure for older style radios - say 96 through 2000 and maybe up through 2002 posted on another board. Maybe try some Google searches.

2003's use the VIN from the computer for the lock - I don't think you can even put your own code in anymore - at key on it does a VIN check. If it doesn't match - you go to the dealer. I'm pretty sure prior to 2003 through I've seen procedures posted somewhere - maybe another board. So hope someone can remember where or have it book marked.

I ran into the same thing when I had the battery disconnected. As Jason said, if the code hasn't been changed, it's the last 4 (I think, could be 3) numbers of the VIN. It was some quick thinking on my part one night.
