my 2006 silverado has 2600 miles on it and from day 1 the truck has vibrated at speeds 57-66,the chevy dealer just did the 3000 service on the truck so I asked the to check out the shimmi, maybe a tire out of balance or bent rim?,I pick up my truck and they tell me to add 500 lb's to the bed and it will solve the problem?,and there is nothing they can do about this and there is a tsb on this problem and gm won't address it.DO All silverado have this problem Or just a chosen few,Has anyone run into this problem and how was it solved.Thanks.Bill :seeya:

Is your truck a 2 WD or 4WD? My '06 Z71 4WD does not vibrate at any speed up to 90 MPH (fastest I had it to date). If your truck is a 2WD, it probably has a set of General tires from the factory. These are not quality tires.

You could have the following problems:

1. bad tire with a separating or loose steel belt in it. Also, one or more tires could be out of round.

2. driveline vibration due to a bent, or unbalanced driveshaft, or a defective U-joint.

If you have the Generals, I would definitely focus my attention on those. Did the dealer rebalance the tires and check them for the road force variation with a machine such as the model 9700 Hunter balancer? This machine has a roller which is applied to a rotating tire with sufficient force to simulate loaded tire road conditions. The machine then records the maximum road force variation in pounds and automatically flags a marginal or defective tire. A road force variation of up to about 20 lbs is acceptable for most car or light truck tires.
