The ABS light usually means that one of the airbags is not making a good connection with the wireharness.

On a 2000 Yukon, You have a dual stage Driver airbag and a dual stage Passenger airbag. This means that you have two connectors per airbag. You need to check all four.

On the Yukon in 2000 I don't believe that you have the ability to shut the passenger side airbag of with a switch. On the pickups you can. So I think you can rule that out as being the problem.

You said the dealer gave you a better deal with the airbag light on? I wonder why? Was the truck crashed and they did not replace the airbags properly? Was the original airbag stolen and they did not replace it properly?

I would start by checking connections and verifying that you have a actual airbags in the truck. I have seen dummy airbags put in vehicles to save money on repairs. Replacement Airbags are expensive.

What worries me is that the passenger airbag on the 2000 GM truck is very specific to vehicle. For example, there is one for 1/2 ton trucks and there is a different one for 3/4 ton trucks but they both fit in the vehicle. The difference is that the 3/4 ton airbag is only a single stage and you would have one additional connector from the wire harness with no place to plug in. This would cause a airbag light.

Lastly, the passenger airbags have what are called non serviceable connectors. This means once they are installed you can't get the connector to diconnect. So if you ever had to replace the passenger airbag it requires that you buy a new one with a new wire harness attached.

Do some investigating on your truck and I will try and walk you through it.

i dont have a manual for it...its actually being sent to me as we speak...but where would the harness be on the vehicle? im guessing under the dash near the passenger side of the tranny hump?

Should be directly behind the glove box area.

My original post should have said Airbag light not ABS light.

That light means there is something not working in the ABS system.

Could be the crash sensors don't work, a short in the wire harness, a bad airbag, etc.

Bottomline is if you wreck tomorrow (god forbid) one or both of your airbags will not work.

Did you buy this from a GM used car dealer or a used car lot?

It sounds fishy to me.

Used car dealers will do anything to move a vehicle. Seems like there would be a law against selling a vehicle with passenger saftey issues. You know... kindve like selling a car without a working seatbelt. Might want to check into your state laws about that type of car transaction. Good luck fixing it!
