2500HD 6.0 performance question

Hi there, been shopping for a tow vehicle for some time.

 

Drove a real good looking 2002 2500HD 4x4 that had 65,ooo kms (40,000 miles?), that had seemingly been used as a pleasure vehicle, not work truck.

 

Seemed to drive fine on the way to mechanic's where I had it checked over, hadn't got chance to push it hard at this point.

 

Tranny fluid seemed to indicate healthy transmission, but after mechanic's test drove in 4-low, he reported 'slipping' that he was not sure was transmission or transfer case related.

 

I tried myself, and when in 4-low, engine seems to rev up some before any drive engages. After this I was spooked, and thought that maybe there was less than should be normal torque when driving in 2 wheel drive. I cant be to sure, as I have not driven many 6.0 chevs.

 

I soon after drove a 2001 2500HD, and found the same delay in 4-low.

 

Any comments from owners would be appreciated.

 

My hopes are that this 4x4 operation is particular to these electronic engaging 4x4's and that nothing faulty was going on here....that way I will feel comfortable going back to buy the sweet 02 I found.

when you put the T-Case into 4 Low you are effectivley doubling both torque and gear ration meaning that it will take more starting effort.

 

Or as is my understanding
