Where's the best place to get braided /stainless brake lines for a 2000 Silverado? A friend of mine put them on his denali and swears by them. I figured I'd give them a try.

get a goodridge kit, they are guaranteed for life. last set of brake lines you will ever install. go with ate/typ brake fluid  use ate first it's blue so you can tell when you've complete bled the line, and then use typ which is amber when you replace the ate 3 years later

stainless steel lines are a good upgrade. GM brake pedals are like marshmallows, and stainless lines help firm up the pedal on my race car.....i be they help even more on a truck.

i will probably do stainless lines sometime this year.

there are other brands, but I would only get a goodridge kit, if they don't make it or make it yet, wait until they do or ask them to make one for you

i was already planning on goodridge.....they're what's on the race car.

i pretty much follow the philosophy of "if it's good enough for the race car, it's good enough for the truck"

which led me to dump in Mobil 1 engine oil, Wix filters, $150 worth of Amsoil in the diffs and transmission, etc etc....

Well, you can always look at Russell. I have a set on my 02 2500 Burban and they are an excellent setup. Summit has some good pricing on Russell. Just another option for you to look at.

I looked at Russell Kits. They only have a 90 day warranty and tech support was less than stellar when I asked questions basically passing the buck. Where Goodridge are guaranteed forever and the tech support was "SPOT ON" LOL

I have noticed that my 01 Z71 extcab has poor braking. I followed the links to goodridge but do not find lines for the 01 models. Is it not available?

Although I don't post much I do read many of the posts with much interest. Great information for those of us who like to keep up on issues.

I have had nothing but great customer service from Russell especially their tech department. That is the reason I chose Russell and not because Goodridge doesn't make a set for my truck. I have never heard a bad word about Russell and I have been using their stuff for over 20 years with absolutely no problems. If a stainless line is going to have a defect (because of the pressure involved) I'm sure you will certainly find out within 90 days and the only other thing that could go wrong is the line could get torn off or damaged and that is not covered by a warranty. I have raced cars and off roaded for years and have never had a defective stainless brake line due to a manufacturing defect. Midas offers lifetime warranties on their mufflers, does that mean they are the best muffler made? Whether Russell is better than Goodridge is a matter of opinion because you can find people that will swear by both. Russell makes quality stuff and just because it doesn't have your blessed "Lifetime Warranty" doesn't mean it is inferior to Goodridge. Guaranteed forever is only on manufacturing defects, anything else happens your on your own. I'm not going to get in a "who's better than whom" discussion about SS brake lines. I think Goodridge makes quality stuff and you have your reasons for liking Goodridge and I have mine regarding Russell. Lets leave it at that.

Email tech support for your model they should get back to you in a couple of days. They won't have a set for the 05 available until late summer. Not sure if it's the same kit or not.

Stainless steel brake lines ?

DOT approved (not off road / race application) so what are the components ?

What grade of stainless steel Outter braid ?

What is the tube (teflon, Nitrile rubber) if rubber tube is it Textile or steel reinforced ?

What are the end fittings made of ? (stainless steel or Aluminum or steel)

These are questions that should be answered and it will make a difference in quality and cost. And DOT approval for street use.

There was a time when Stainless stell brake lines were only available with a teflon tube. This was great for high pressure and not swelling and high temperatures. But only approved for off road use as teflon has a problem in that when "kinked" it will crack / fatique and could blow out. Aeroquip AQP use to be one of the few high performance S/S brake line mfg available. But I konw that there are a lot more today.

A lot of S/S hoses (all hoses in general) for show & shine street use are just a cheap grade of stainless steel Outter brade that is put over plain old standard issue automotive hose.

If you want true performance you are going to pay performance prices. No cutting corners here.

Do you have a suggestion that meets the performace requirements as well as DOT approval? Or does the Aeroquip meet DOT too?

looking at the Goodridge website, they state they meet DOT requirements. That would be a BIG plus in my book. From looking at their specs, You would get quality materials.

I don't know If Aeroquip has any DOT approved Stainless brake lines, When I was a Distributor for Aeroquip they did not have or approve any of their S/S teflon brake lines for street use. Only Off road use.

Knowing what I know about Hose and teflon(P.T.F.E.) hoses, I personally would not use S/S Teflon hose for street use. It is just a safety issue with me in that Teflon hose will crack when bent Beyond it's bend radius (like excessive rebound OR even when doing a brake job and kinking it)

It is a good Idea to replace rubber brake lines as vehicles get older as with time rubber compounds break down, Plus with fatique rubber can expand under braking and give a mussy pedal. A good reinforced after market rubber brake line would be better than stock. If you got to have the stainless steel look look for suppliers that have a S/S outter braid over rubber (I really have not looked for a supplier)

With the company I work for we Buy and sell from several manufactures of Teflon hose and S/S overbraid Teflon hose. We normally purchase the hose & fittings in bulk and make hose assemblies to customer specifications for Industrial applications . None of my current suppliers have any approved for street use.

If anyone is looking at any stainless steel hose for automotive use weather it be a brake line or a radiator hose, I suggest you find out all of the components and the grade of stainless steel that go into the manufacture of the hose. Sometimes you can be fooled by looks.
