bassdog Posted May 1, 2002 Posted May 1, 2002 Hey guys, I'm in need of some cheap ladder racks / weekender rack to haul my canoe around. It's about 16 - 17ft and weighs a bunch. Any brands you guys might suggest? The canoe and rack will replace my tonno for the summer ;)
chevy4x4trucks Posted May 1, 2002 Posted May 1, 2002 So this will just be for the summer? Hmmm, most ladder racks would require a lot of drilling. Have you ever thought of custom fabbing something that would go into your stake pockets? I mean, it would be easy to remove and I would think could hold the weight of a canoe. If you know somenoe who can weld you could probably do it for a few hundred dollars. But before you do that, get me my 90 bucks
chainsaw4130 Posted May 1, 2002 Posted May 1, 2002 A buddy of mine built a canoe rack out of wood. I believe he used 2x6s for 4 posts and 2x4s to attach the 2x6s. He relies on the pressure of the four posts against the bed to keep everything in place. He has it for three years with out any problems.
bassdog Posted May 1, 2002 Author Posted May 1, 2002 If you know somenoe who can weld you could probably do it for a few hundred dollars. I can buy a TRAC-RAC for that $$$ . You'll get your $90 ;) Since I am not "handy' at building anything, the wood structure would A: fall apart on first use and B: be a waste of time and energy for me . Thanks for the suggestion though
