Interesting Question

I have been having problems with my Transmission on my truck. I also need a new cat, so here is the question: Would a blocked cat cause the transmission to shift funny? Although it is an electronic tranny and not a vaccume controled one, but I was thinking.

 

Any ideas on this?

I can't think of any way a clogged cat would change the way the transmission behaves.

It sure would because the PCM is seeing different values that shouldnt be there and adjusting for it. Fix the Cat. ASAP so you dont burn valves and do damage to the engine. Then if the is an issue with the trans your going to be able to find it easier.

Thanks redvette, I have been having problems with the trans and although I noticed the cat going south some time ago (did not think it was the cat at the time), I never put it all together. I recently was given a Dodge truck to use for my company and had to replace the cat on that as well, afterwards, it ran like a champ. This is when I started thinking about the problems with the Silverado. Maybe this will give me more time before I have to gut and rebuild the tranny!!! I will let ya'll know next week.

 

BTW, Installed High flow cat - $150, smell of rubber burning as you hit the gas: priceless.

Sent my wife to have the cat replaced today. She called me and told me that the truck shifts great now, and the tires don't like to hold the pavement anymore!!!! WHOO HOO, My truck is back!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

 

Best $150 I ever spent on it!!
