Anyone ever jam these guys? What are everyones thoughts on the album? I been a Ryche fan for several years now, and my first impressions are that if your buy it looking for a decent rock album, but I'm not sure it should bear the name "Operation Mindcrime" especially without Chris DeGarmo.

In no way, now for me, could another OMC exist, with or without DeGarmo.

I was having the time of my life when the first came out. I doubt I could relive that. Soooooooo, I'll stick to Pt. 1, and jamming it whenever I need to go back for a few.

Haven't heard anything from Pt. 2 so, I can't critisize it, and probably wouldn't anyway.

yea OMC was increadible. Unfortunatly I'm only 21, so too young to have seen them live with DeGarmo.

I downloaded the new album first before I decided to buy it. It is a decent rock album at best. I am dissapointed. The last half of the album is weak, and is given decent status only because of the fairly strong first half. The guitar riffs are boring at times, and despite what a lot of reviews are saying there is NO harmoization between the guitars..but then again no DeGarm right?

I still dig the guys, and will still catch them on their way through Houston. I've seen em 3 times (once wiht Iron Maiden, once with Dream Theater and Fates Warning and once solo while they replayed OMC in its entirity) and even without DeGarmo MOST of the songs are still great live. Just a shame they havn't put out a really solid album since Promised Land. I've begun to listen to more Dream Theater.

OMC is probably one of my top three favorite cd's of all time.

I've been gunshy about buying the new one because I have a couple of tracks that were "snuck" out by a radio guy I know. If these two tracks are any indication, I don't think I'm going to like it.

That said, I've decided to drop the $20 or so on it and give it a fair listen.

Right you are, OUMike. I really got turned off by Geoff Tate's political ramblings, personally. I got to meet him during his solo tour and he seemed aloof and better than anyone else. I'm a big Dream Theater fan and I found this interview pretty interesting.

Woah, your a big DT fan? I love those guys. Since the decline of Queensryche, I started listening to Dream Theater a lot more. They are easy my favorite band these days, and I miss the old school QR albums.

Yea, I've read a couple of interveiws about Geoff Tate, ironically enough all by Mike Portnoy. I read one interview that said, he basically only listened to his own stuff. A shame really. The first handful of Queensryche albums were really pretty aweseome. Nonetheless my girlfriend is buying me Ryche tickets for our anniversary. They are still great to hear em play the old songs live. They'll be at Houston's Verizon Wireless in Sept.

The last time I saw them live was '91 during the Empire tour. Suicidal Tendencies opened for the and it was a great show. They did the whole Mindcrime set and it ruled!

I love Dream Theater, Symphony X and Fates Warning. If you haven't already, check FW's A Pleasant Shade of Gray cd and Symphony X's The Odyssey.

I bit the bullet and bought the new OMII and I've listened to about half. To be honest, I had the sound of the first one in my head when I started listening, but after a few songs, I realized it's a totally different animal. It's darker and heavier than the last one with a lot of orchestration and string arrangements. I actually like it!

Yea FWs Pleasant Shade of Gray is awesome. I'll have to check out the Symphony X stuff.

I'm glad ya dig the new QR album. I'll have to listen to more I guess. I like some parts, but the end of the album I'm not to crazy about.

I saw Queensryche a while back and Fates and Dream Theater opened for em....that was a great show. My last time to see em was back in 04 and they were yet again playing the entire Mindcrime set...no Chris though, so I'm sure your show was a lot better.

As far as technical ability, I think Michael Wilton is a better guitar player, but DeGarmo really has the feel and writes some really nice parts. I think he was the real musical backbone to the band.

Thats an interesting perspective. I've never heard that before. I've come to learn DeGarmo attended the Berklee College of Music (with John Petrucci). I'd definatly have to agree about the backbone. Seems like when he became to be unhappy (Hear in the Now Frontier on) the band went down hill.

I'll still look forward to the tickets my gf bought me for our anniv. though.
