Powdercoating polished aluminum wheels

Recommended Posts

I recently purchased a new set of polished aluminum wheels. I wanted to avoid all the polishing to keep them looking good so I called a paint shop to get some advice. They recommended powdercoating them with clear. Has anyone ever had this done? They said that it would cost about $35 a wheel, which I didn't think was too bad. Any opinions on having this done?

This may sound like a dumb question, but since you have to bake powdercoat on, what do you do about coating the plastic center cap?

Well I just got them back and they look great. Actually they look the same as when I took them in. I couldn't even tell that they were coated.

The center cap was actually a thin metal of some kind. They just removed it for the powdercoat process. I didn't bother doing anything with the center cap. They are pretty cheap I figured I would just order new ones if they got bad. But spray clear coating them sounds like a good idea.
