I have 2003 2500HD with the 8.1ltr gas. If the truck sit's for 20 minutes or is ice cold it sounds like a dura-max for about 30 seconds. im showing 40psi on the oil psi gauge. Do you have any idea what may be wrong ??? Im using 10w30 motor oil.

Thanks

Not sure how many miles are on your 8.1L but I would not think that the lifters are worn out. I have been in the Auto Parts industy for over 25 years and there are many chemicals that are made to sell and only few made to use. We have been selling a product called Rislone by Shalers since the late 70s. Of course cars then, especially Olds, Buicks and certain Ford engines always had lifter issues. We sold the Rislone and would tell the customer: "if this does not quiet the lifters, you can get your wrenches out".

Rislone is not a friction modifier such as STP or Lucas, it contains a chemical package that treats the "hydraulic system" of an engine, primarily the lifters.

I would strongly suggest that you try it the next time you change the oil. Simply replace one qt of oil with Rislone and my guess is you will see your lifter noise go away.

Rislone # (100QR) is in a yellow qt bottle but because it is not one of the newer miracle chemicals, you may have a hard time finding it. I can tell you the CARQUEST Auto Parts stores can order it by the qt if they do not have it in stock. You can also check out their website.

Good luck
