Tire pressure?

Recommended Posts

I am wondering what the correct tire pressure would be for a 265/75/16 load C for a 4dr Yukon. The tires I have are Kumho Road Venture KL 78. They are a A/T tire (great tire for the price). The max cold psi stated on the tire is 60.

Thanks

I ran 35 psi on all my trucks that had LT265/75R16 "C" tires. :shakehead:

I had 245/16's and It recommends 50 all the way around. I knocked it down to 48 and it runs well. I might lower the rears another few yet w/o a load.

Remember,You want to go by whats on the door jamb sticker,NOT BY WHATS ON THE TIRE!

tire pressure is a function of the load not the max written on the tire. I know someone else said this but I know this to be a fact. the door sticker is a good place to start.

One can find pressure charts on the net, sometimes in owners manuals that give pressures for loads. the pressure on the tire is the not to be exceeded pressure. chevy used to have this chart in their manuals.

The truck came with 245/75/16. Thats why I was asking. 35 seems too low. Just looking for the ideal for gas mileage.

I know 35 seems low but believe me,Its not.Thats all I ran in the trucks I had with that same size and load rating and I got excellent wear (40,000+miles) out of the Goodyear Wrangler TD's that were on them.

Among other things, it's important to be sure replacement tires have load carrying capacity (at the cold inflation pressure used) that meets or exceeds that of the OE tires . If you switch from P-metric to LT-metric tires and also switch sizes, the recommended pressure on your door sticker will likely no longer apply. Load and Inflation (pressure) Tables used in the tire industry are published separately for the two different tire types. Compare recommendations from your tire retailer and Kumho, they should both have these tables. (Re-check the max. pressure molded into the sidewall of your tires, for a LRC it should be 50 psi.).

I just ran into this situation with my dealer on my truck. The truck has the load E rated tires it came with from the factory on it. I had 40 psi all around and the truck road like the dam tires were out of round. I brought it in and after they rebalanced the tires and "properly" inflated the tires the truck rides great. The presure was 50psi in the fronts and 80psi in the rears just as the door sticker tells me it is supposed to be.

Also keep in mind while higher pressure helps with better MPG it also kills your brakeing time.

An inverse relationship - so if you don't tailgate and don't mind adding to your stoping distance pump up those tires to the max.

285 75 16 load Range D

I have run at 35, 40 , 50 cold

35 soft decent ride

40 getting to stiff and bouncy

50 bounces around so much you feel like the front end is getting loose

I have found anything above 35 and I spin the tires all the time in the rain, cant stop for S!!t, and the ABS kicks on waaaay too much!!!

The truck does rely on the tires for a small, but significatn, amount of the suspension and ride quality.
