New Venture Gear 4500

I've got a 96 GMC K2500 with a 6.5TD mated to a NV4500. The truck has almost 300000kM's on it, and i wanted to change the transmission oil. The factory spec is for castrol syntorq, and i have heard stories of the NV4500 cratering if you dont use syntorq. I have been talking to one of the techs from royal purple, and their gear oil conforms to all the specs that the syntorq has. I was just wondering if anyone has put royal purple max-gear 75W90 into their NV4500's and not had their tranny blow apart.

Never have but Royal Purple makes some good stuff and they sell it at most GM dealerships so you can probably trust what the tech had to say.
