MG5 Noises

I have a 2000 silverado w/a MG5. The tailshaft seal failed and before It was caught it lost about 1/2 a quart of fluid and it started making a whining noise. I replaced the seal and try to make sure it stays full however, The whine is much worse now and it grinds if you shift it into 4TH too fast. I've changed the fluid twice. I'm getting brass in it. Maybe Syncro's? I think it's dieing. Bad timing.

Questions

1)Is it possible to pull this thing down and reassemble this thing without buying the stands and ALL of the tools, shim selectors, the manuals say you have to have? If so I know rebuilders are not going to buy this all this stuff for one trans. I've seen a picture on a rebuilders website of a tech building this trans. It shows a pile of gears, a case, a metal table and a tech stacking the main shaft. No special tools. If this is the case I will do it myself. If not will not trust a rebuilder to have the tools to do it right so I'll either have to pay out the big bucks for a GM replacement trans or a find good used one. "found a 30,000 mile S10 one so far.

2)What is the most likely damage. IE synrco's and bearings or thrashed case and main shaft destroyed?

3) Alldata say's the S10 MG5 is different. Whats different?

If anyone has actually had one of these apart. Your opinion would be very helpful.
