1997 GMC SAVANNA 2500 TRANSMISSION

I have a 1997 GMC Savanna 2500 5.7L.

My Transmission doesnt shift from first gear. Top speed is 15MPH.

It goes up to 15MPH while I'm driving around the block after car doesnt move forward anymore. After about 5-7 minutes after shutting down the car it would move for a while then the same thing happen.

Also I dont know if this help but if I start it up and let it warm up it would move only out of my driveway.

Does it have a 4L60 or a 4L80 trans?

One way to tell is by how many lug nuts on each wheel. 8-lug nuts is a 3/4 ton van, with 4L80E. 5 or 6 lug nuts would mean a 1/2 ton van, with a 4L60E.

Thank for the help guys. It a 4L80E. I changed the fluid and filter and it ran very fine. No more hard shifting. Thank for the effort. I register at many forums to get respond and this in one of five that respond.

I would say it was just sediment in the pressure control solenoid or a valve sticking in the valve body.
