Keyless entry add??

Recommended Posts

I have searched and found some info on here. I just wanted to know if there was anymore input out there. I have a 2006 WT with P/W and P/L. I have a passenger window switch from a 2005 that had keyless entry. I have read that if I install this in my truck I should be able to have keyless?? I did the keyless test on the truck and the door locks cycle and the horn honks now. Do I still need to install the 2005 switch?? Any help would be great. This is the only option I'm missing that the truck didn't have. Had to go 145 miles to pick it up. Other than that I love my new truck. Thanks (Special Equipment Option)

If you have power locks factory on your truck that should be all you need. Just buy the right key fob for your car, ground the keyless entry on the OBD2 connector (I believe) then your locks should cycle, press the lock button on your fob, remove the ground and your set.

Actually I guess the way I stated was for OBD1 and I guess it's different with OBD-2. Here's what you do for OBD-2 Camaro's, I'm assuming it's the same as your truck.

Programming procedure:

Turn ignition switch to OFF position.

Remove RADIO fuse 17 from fuse block.

Cycle ignition switch from OFF to RUN three times within five seconds until the door locks and the hatch release cycle, indicating the Body Control Module is in the Programming Mode.

Press and hold BOTH LOCK and UNLOCK buttons on remote control door lock transmitter for 16 seconds.

Door locks will cycle once, confirming the transmitter code is programmed. The door locks must cycle completely to unlock before proceeding.

Any transmitter code that was previously programmed has been erased.

Body Control Module is now programmed to remote control door lock transmitter.

When programming the Body Control Module to match remote control door lock transmitters, the first transmitter code matched will be stored in memory unless a second remote control door lock transmitter is matched at the same time. If programming the Body Control Module to match a second transmitter, repeat step 4. This must be done before the RADIO fuse 17 is reinstalled.

Ignition switch to OFF.

Reinstall RADIO fuse 17 to fuse block.

I've heard on the 98 it should have a seperate module in the passenger door to do the same as I did on my 06. Check with a dealer to see if there is a module in the door. Then if you get lucky like I did you can just plug it in and program your key fob. If you can find a truck in the salvage that may have this it could be fairly cheap. Hope this helps.
