Bugshield for 06

Don't want anything ugly just subtle. Dealer wants 60 bucks for there's. They have a GM stamped on one end and bolt right up in the holes provided under the hood. But I would also like clear. Pics would help. Keep in mind the 06 have HD hoods now.

A bug shield will cost you 0.5 mpg.  Think about it.

I have a Lund bug shield and have tested my truck under x-way speeds very controled with & without. Using cruise, no traffic, 72 mph on my weekly trips 141 mi and with the shield i get better mileage. Not as much air is hitting the windshield. The square area of the shield is smaller than the windshield. I average 18 mpg winter & 20.8 summer.

As for the bug shield i would go to a few truck equiptment shops and check out there shields. The Lund attaches in the same holes under the hood.

Hey redvett

I also have a Lund bug shield on my truck. Do you have a problem with it getting a dark haze on it? Oxidation, I would assume. It's really dull looking. If you hjave this problem, what do you do about it? Thanks

Sorry but i always buy the clear and paint it body color. Even have them on my business trucks too.

I would try a polish maybe a swerl remover to clean it up.

I have an Auto Vent Shade, Paid under 50 at advance auto. It is a no drill model. I like the quality, now I will probably get some non-adhesive vent shades to match.

BTW this model is dark smoke in color.

I can guarantee you that your truck's sheet metal was designed in a wind tunnel, and I can also guarantee you that your Lund bug deflector was not designed in a wind tunnel.

You're just wishful thinking if you think that bug shield is not creating extra drag.

Lund would be advertising the mpg gains if there were any.

Thanks for the input guys. I looked at the GM shields. I just wish I knew who made them. I work at a auto parts store so I'm sure I could save some greenback if I could just figure out who was makivg them for GM. I'm satisfied they buy them from someone else.

By the way pewter z28 where exactlly does that two sided tape go???

While I agree the bugshield will probably create some extra drag, I doubt they windtunnel tested the heck out of the truck. After all, it's a truck, not a race car. Not sure where you got 0.5 mpg setback? But at least Redvett is backing up his statements with his somewhat "scientific" testing. :bs:

Anyway, there are a lot of other things that can factor into figuring out mpg....tires, side mirrors, tonneau cover, extra weight, clean/dirty, light foot/lead foot..well, you get the picture.

I myself am wondering if the bugshield actually does what a lot of people have claimed...keeping debris away from the hood and windshield? I have a new 06 Sierra and have been considering getting one. I've just been trying to find out if they really protect the hood or windshield. Also, what's the difference b/n the low profile $40 shield vs. the $80 regular shield besides price?
