Want to do a 6.0 to 8.1 swap in 2001 2500HD 4x4

Ok, I have a 2001 2500HD 4x4 crew cab, want to put the heftier 8.1L into her for more power, what is involved? I am after, and better performance while towing as my truck is almost exclusively used to pull my RV.

mainly looking for insight as to the complexity of the swap, is it a straight forward bolt up deal?

do I need to replace tranny?

what other than engine needs replaced, and where can I go to find info on the swap,,,,,

anyone done this swap that can tell me their experience would also really help me out.

Thanks in advance, this is my first post on the site......

Allot of people have talked about it but I've only talk to one person that says he done it. He said it was a direct drop in and the 6.0 weiring harness plugs right in. He used a LS1edit to retuned it. The trans in it will be fine the 4L80E can hold what every a stock 8.1 can throw at it

well if I had a heeping helping of extra cash I would buy a new truck, but it seems that if it is a direct bolt up that tossin an extra 8 or 10k into a new truck wouldnt make sense. I am looking at affordability here. I am a firm believer that the easy way is to buy a new truck, easy that is if you have the money to do it. I have a 01 hd2500 cc 4x4 sb, with over 100k, on it, not exactly a high demand trade-in.....

you may laugh but what would it take to put a 8.1 in a reg cab truck 4x4 1500 with a 4.3 engine and the 5spd. I have a '99 nbs and its got like 86k on it. Still runs fine and i expect it to last for a while but it doesnt have much power after 3rd gear most of its in 1st 2nd.

Not much at all....

front suspenstion

rear suspension

new transmition/motor mounts

new wiring/PCM

new rear

new transmition

drive shaft

new instrument cluster

brake upgrades

----considering chevy didnt have the newer HD bodies in 99, you may also need....

new radiator/core support

new hood

new inner fenders

possible frame alterations, but not sure

Definately a one or two weekend job at the most......
