Upshift indicator light...

Alright, well I have a manual as you can tell from the subject lines and I was curious if I'd be wasting my time and sounding like an idiot if I were to call my local Chevy dealer to ask them if it would be possible to have them 'program' the computer to NOT use the upshift indicator light? I mean, I know how to drive a stick.... being doing it for years and the thing is never right anyways. I mean, I can be in 4th gear cruising along at 30mph, 1100rpms and it wants me to go to 5th..... It's not THAT annoying but if it can be shut off, I'll be right there first thing in the morning...

It annoys me too...

I do a lot of off-road, mountain driving, and I'll be headed uphill, going about 40 mph, and it will want me to be in 5th gear, even though I'm at a really low RPM.

I have to say, this is the "pushiest" vehicle I've ever owned. It complains about what gear I'm in, beeps constantly at me if my passenger or I don't have our belts on, etc... I don't like my truck trying to outsmart me!

Your local tuner can diable the shift light. The dealer might have to request a whole new calibration from GM.

I liked the way a VW Rabbit that came into the shop decades ago had been disabled. The owner had put a very small drillbit through the cluster lense and into the light (LED) disabling it. It was a subtle but clear statement of where s/he was with that feature. I would not recommend doing this with the current cluster as you are as likely to put a hole through a chip or other circuitry as the light. For all we know, there is probably an error code on the ODBC-II system when that light fails.

haha, it is rather pushy I've noticed. It wants things done ITS way or the highway... literally... hehe no pun intended. Anyway, all my GM 5spd's have been like this. The least pushy is the 96 cavalier my wife owns. If you ignore the light it will go out after a few seconds until you shift out of that gear.
