Scaled down diesel for 1500s...

If GM offered a scaled down diesel in their 1500 series trucks would you be interested?  Maybe something like a Mini-Duramax in the 4-5L displacement range?  Rumor has it that Ford is planning to offer something like this for the F150 in the next 5 years or so.

I would be interested in it. The big question for me would be how loud would it be.

The big question which I meant to mention in the original post is "how much will it cost"?    The Duramax "option" on a 2500HD or a 3500 is almost $5000 for that motor

I guess I wouldn't be crazy about dropping 5k extra on any 1/2 ton pickup engine.   I'd love to have a diesel as an option for the 1500s, but I think it would have to be in the $2500 range to make it feasible.

I'd love to see a smaller diesel offered in the half tons and SUVs of that size.  Anymore too many people are interested in the diesel and are buying trucks way too big for what they need to just get that oil burner.  I'd say that if GM put that engine choice into these trucks they'd have a hit.  While I wouldn't buy one as for my uses it just isn't enough truck, I bet most of the general public who are buying trucks for uses other than hard work would seriously consider it.

That would be a nice option, especially if the cost was kept down.

Remember when you could get the "transformed" 5.7L diesel in the mid and full size GM cars like the Caprice and the GranPrix???

With the low miles my truck gets, I couldn't justify the cost. (any cost).  Just curious though....do you still have to plug diesels in to 110v to heat them up in cold weather?  My neighbors Powersmoke won't crank below 20* but it's an older model.

I would definately be interested.  I really wanted a D/A, but couldn't justify the cost right now.

Would you believe I initially started looking for a $4-5k beater Nissan???

A diesel in a 1500 wouldnt be too bad if the price is right, I mean if the 2500 with the larger diesel isnt much more it wouldnt make sense to get the scaled down version for such a little price difference.

My Uncle has a Cummins and he doesnt have to plug it in, it will start in the cold temps but starts alot better and smoother if it is plugged in. Kind of like the package available for our trucks I guess. We really dont need it but it probably helps!
