My 2003 Silverado ABS has started pulsating at low speeds sometimes over the last week. Any ideas? its a 4x4, can I clean the sensors? Was there a recall on this?

thanks

My 2000 K3500 OBS did that a few years ago and it was a bad rotor and sensor.

very common. There is a recall on the ABS sensors if you live in a northern state, if you are not in one of the 14 states or Canada then it will not be covered.

It also maybe a bad wheel bearing because as they wear the hall effect sensor for the ABS becomes misaligned so even if you put a new abs sensor in it will still fail. Do youself a favor and jack the front end off the ground and grab the front tires top and bottom and see if there is any significant play in them, if there is be prepared to repalce the Wheel bearings. There should be zero play in the bearings.

I have been through 3 wheel bearings on my 02 Pick-up. The recall did not fix my problem and the wheel bearing was not covered by GM. I did all three myself and it is not too bad to replace them.

It is very dangerous to have your ABS going off at low speeds as the truck will not stop. Until you figure out what is wrong go under the hood and pull the ABS fuse (black box on drivers side on top of the wheel well). This disbales the ABS and allows the brakes to work safetly, you just won't have ABS and the dash light will come on.

Let us know what you find out.

Good luck.

Does the recall cover the 03's? I was told there was no recalls on my truck.

My Dad's 99 had a simular problem, and GM fixed it (200K on his truck!)

P.s. do you have a recall number or notification I can look up?
