Hey guys,

Well I had a bird crap on my truck while I was at camp and when I got home I washed the truck. Most of it came off but you can still see where it was. There were two spots on my bed side one underneath the other and then it ran down to the bottom. My truck is black so it's quite obvious. So far I've tried bug/tar remover, and goo gone. Neither has worked at all! Any suggestionson how to get this sh**t off?

Wash, dry, clay, polish and then wax, that `ll do it. I must have had a giant terradactol poop on my last weekend, hit right on thr mirror, and went everywhere. Usually once waxed, that stuff will wash right off with no marks. But, wax only lasts for 3-4 months.

yea..and wax usually lasts long depending on where you live. I live in Houston, TX so waxing twice a year is insane. I usually wax often. My truck is also 12 years old and lives outside and is constantly exposed to high temperatures and bright bright sun.

I clayed a few months back and it did wonders for my old paint. It does not keep the smooth feel after rain and weather. Once I wash and wax though, the smooth feel is back. In my opinion wax is pretty much at your liesure. But again...my paint is old, faded and my truck is never garaged.

When removing bird waste be sure to saturate the effected area pretty heavily with water or I use the Mequires solution that comes in the clay kit. I've seen people not properly wet the area and the bird dung tears up the paint as its wiped off...not a good expirence.

Sounds like it ate right through the clear coat into the paint! Bird crap is highly acidic and if it isn't washed off quickly it WILL eat through the clear coat into the paint. Wax acts like a buffer between the poop and the clear coat and paint so be sure to wax your truck once every few months or so just to keep the wax in optimal condition. If you have a buffer/polisher, that along with a polish will blend the paint back into its original color and followed with a good coat of wax should protect your paint nicely.

Thanks for the replies, the truck was painted less than two weeks prior to the bird crap. I called up the shop where I had my truck done and he said to just bring it in and he'll buff it off. no big deal so I'm bringing it in this Thursday.

Ah that's nice of them. Here's what I'd recommend, either go get yourself a good wax like Zymol which is an awesome natural carnuba wax. Everything I've waxed with it has that deep wet look and it's very good at taking out minor scratches and swirl marks. You can use whatever you want or like, though. Or get yourself a good synthetic wax that puts a 'shell' on the paint. A synthetic will give you more of a glassy look. Either way, both will protect nicely. The wax should be reapplied every 3-4 months, though so as to keep your protective coating in optimal shape. The bird crap will eat the wax instead of your paint which is the general idea.

All you can do is get it off your car/truck quick, because there is no "wax" that will protect from bird dropping if the birds are eating berries, they are very high in acid.

Well, obviously you don't want to leave it sit on there for 3 months but at least a good coat of wax or polymer will buy you more time before it starts eating through the clear coat into the paint.
