Wiper problem

I have a 96 1500 gmc sierra and my windshield wipers will only come on when they want to. Like one day it will work and the next it will not. When i turn them on i hear a buzzing sound like it is trying to come on or something. Even my mist won't come up when the wipers aren't working. Got any ideas?

you should have gotten a recall on that, they replaced the one on my 97 gmc a couple years ago. either way you need a wiper motor.

You need the module ( circuit board ) that bolts to the motor.

I just bought the truck not too long ago. Can i recall it or is it too late?

I bought a circut board for a 94 I use to have 36 bucks and a half an hour later they were working good.

So does that mean that it has a recall? So what do i do to get it fixed?

The recall is open, so it can be replace free of charge. If you have been paid for you can be reimbursed. Just go to your local Chevy dealer.

Very common problem, and yes, everyone I know has been able to get their dealer to honor a recall campaign on these. However, for the DIYer, the repair is simple and takes five minutes. Remove the cover from the wiper motor assembly. Remove the circuit board. With a magnifying glass, identify any dark lines around the solder connections which indicate cracks. Touch solder connections with a hot light duty soldering iron (not a 140-200 watt gun) and the circuit board will be repaired. Reinstall and enjoy. I perform this repair for friends and neighbors since we live in an area where the dealership is over 40 miles away. Haven't had one failure yet. I'm saving my recall campaign for when the motor really goes bad!

I just took my truck to chevy on friday and they said that my truck wasnt under the recall. My wiper works when it wants to and hums when it wants also, i think they should fix it. How can i find out if they are right and where can i get a report on my truck like in the previous post? Thanks

Update: I figured out my truck's vin wasn't on the recall list so i bought the part from Advance Auto ( western auto ) for $32 and fixed it myself. I was as simple as pluging in a lamp.
