Spark Plug Gap

Recommended Posts

Posted

I need a little help. I changed my plugs in my 02 4.8 this weekend. I asked the Autozone guy about the gap. He said they were preset. (AC Delco Iridium). They were preset at .045. After I installed I decided to check the owners manual...which said .060 and yes, the old ones were around .060.

My question is this, what will happen if I leave the gap at .045? The truck seems to be running fine.

Leave the Iridiums set at their factory gap...messing with it can only damage the little Iridium "puck" on the electrodes. Your truck wouldn't run any differently if you did change the gap, so it's not necessary. Besides, if you look at the plug package itself it tells you not to re-gap the plugs.
