Wheel size for 2WD GMC 1500

I know this question has been asked many times before.  But, I can't seem to find any answers to this question in the search area.  

 

What is the biggest tire I can fit on a 2002 2WD GMC 1500?  I want to keep a 16 inch rim and I want the tire to be wider than stock, and I don't plan putting a lift kit on it.  The tire that is on it right now is 235/70.

 

Also if you have any cool ideas about rims show some pics.

Without a lift kit I'm not so sure you could get too big of a tire in there, but you could probably take a tape measure from the center of the hub out to the fender, making sure to keep enough clearance that the tire won't rub against stuff. Also keep in mind that when the front wheels are turned, you'll need even more clearance for the big tire to get around the stuff in there... If I were you I would throw even a short lift kit on there - not too hard to install and fairly cheap...
