Range rapidly declines in park or neutral

I don't get it... I can sit there in drive completely stopped for 5 minutes and the Range from the DIC won't fluctuate one bit, maybe a mile up or down if I'm sitting that long... But the MOMENT I put it in neutral or park, BAM it rapidly declines by 20 or more MPG. Sometimes more sometimes less... I don't get it. :driving: Has anyone else noticed this or is it because my truck was manufactured in Canada?

Ya wouldn't think though that it'd still be trying to see how far you can go in neutral or park... Your MPG is still pretty much 0 while it's in drive and you're holding the brakes so it shouldn't really matter either way is what I'm sayin'.

You're burning gas and not moving. At that current rate of consumption, the computer is correct in dropping your range...Not going to get very far in park. :driving:

Its because it was manufactured in Canada. Check it for beer suds eh.

Not going very far with the brakes locked up, either. :driving: Technically, your range should drop to zero and continue to decline until it actually reaches zero. I understand what you're saying, though.. I just think it's odd that you can sit there for a few minutes in drive w/ the brakes locked up then pop it into neutral and instantly your calculated range is reduced by 20-30 miles. Shouldn't it also drop like that at every red light as I'm burning fuel and going no where? See where I'm confused? hehe such a petty little problem, doesn't really bother me but I just think it's a little odd is all.

You know what. When I put my truck in park the fuel consumption goes through the roof, and the odometer stops working. Could this be for the same reason? :)

But, I'm in Canada. Technically, I'd think you could take my truck's range, multiply by 5/9 and subtract 32, and I would get the mileage and fuel consumption that you Americans get. :driving: Or do I divide by 2.54? :(

Whadya think?

:D

All in good fun of course!!!!!! :)

ok now I'm confused in park, Nuetral and drive? :driving: oh wait a minute my truck does not have the DIC function. I gues my mpg is the same no matter what gear i'm in.

heh man am I coming across so unclear that nobody understands me??? :D

lemme try to make it more simple if that's even possible... okay, truck sitting at red light. dead stop. 0 mph. SAME EXACT CONDITIONS as being in park except there's more pressure on the drivetrain but i'm already getting too complicated for you guys.

what's the difference between being at a dead stop in drive and a dead stop in park/neutral as far as economy goes?

Its those d*** computer nerds (I apologize to any reading this) doing that on purpose to give us something to talk about.
