Street Scene Speed Grille for '02 Z71 Tahoe...

Hey folks,

I keep seeing these grilles listed on different parts suppliers' sites, but rarely do they list anything later than '00 Tahoes (making me wonder if the sites just aren't updated, or if there's something different with the '02s).  So, I'm looking for a part number for the inserts for a '02, I suppose.

But I'm also wondering some other things about them.  Do they (will they) rust?  Do they require any cutting out of the existing grille?  Do they go over top of the existing grille?  And do they come in black (along with the chrome and brushed I've seen listed)?

Thanks for the info, folks!

Oh, and any knocks on their quality?  I'm new to the Tahoe game!  Thanks!

the '00 thru '02 grilles are the same, they just don't bother changing it right away cus they assume you will know.

cheap grilles will rust. Buy a good brand and you'll be ok. Stull, Trenz, CarWear are good ones.

Some grilles do require cutting the stock grille, well, most replacememtn grilles do require it. There are a few that don't. Just depends on your preference.

I am probably gonna go with the Carwear billet grille on my '02 Tahoe. If you decide to do the same, give me a buzz, I'll get ya a great deal on one.

I have a Street Scene insert on mine. I have no problems with it and have had it for almost 2 years. Aluminum won't rust. You can paint it to what ever color you want. They install over your stock insert. If you have a Tahoe, your insert is already black. For a Silverado, they reccomend painting the stock insert black. The stock insert won't come out w/o a lot of work. It is molded to the rest of the grille. One thing I would reccomend when installing it would be to fold some electircal tape over the edges of it before pushing them through. The edges can scratch the plastic of your stock grille.

Thanks for the replies.

FULLSIZE, my entire post was specifically about the "Street Scene" grilles, though I don't think I made that too clear beyond the header.  Thanks for the overall views on the different grilles.  (Would you change/add anything to your post based on all the questions being about Street Scene grilles?)

Fast4.8 -- can you tell me anymore about how the screens "stay put" one pushed into place (installation), and also direct me to some sites where I could see more of these installed (and where I can find a good price on 'em)?

Thanks!

Let me jump in on this...

I have the Street scene grille too. Easy to install. You have to take off a plastic shield once you pop the hood, but that is easy to do with a screwdriver, then push in the grille inserts and finally attach it with the clips provided to you. Total time is about 30 minutes. Unless you want to custom paint it. They come either brushed aluminum or chrome.
