Exhaust Question

I'm thinking about running true dual straight pipes (not y,x,h pipe). My friend told me you lost about a mile a gallon because there is no backflow but I didn't know if it was true or not. He also said by doing that it tends to burn up the o2 sensors which i know cost about 80-120 to replace. I was wondering if there was any validity to what he told me.

I can effect lower RPM power. responce and city MPG because if the to much backpressue is removed the cylinder blow down too quickly at lower RPMs and energy is lost out tail pipe. (a engine make power from harnessing the expanding gas in cylinder to move piston down to turn crank) I would suggest a 1 in 2 out muffler if you want the dual look with least impact on MPG. Modern engine are well tuned from intake to exhaust and given the HP and MPG wars if it was that easy to make it better they would come that way. Also on the O2 sensors, it can keep them for reaching proper temp and shorten their effective life (as gass expands is cools and in a ture dual setup the gas is cooler when it gets to O2 sensor.
