My tow/haul button is inop on my 99 Silverado 4x4 with 5.3l. When you push the button

to engage it, the light does not light up on the cluster, and no changes are made in the shifting. Anybody experience this?

Look right where the shifter lever pivots/attaches to the column.

I just looked where you said there was already a slice in that rubber piece where the shifter enters the column. Seems to be one red wire going up to the button. Just by tugging on the wire, seems not to be broken in that intersection. What do you suggest now? I was looking through the owners manual to see if tow/haul button is fused, guess its just hardwired.

the wire could be broke but the insulation is keeping the wire intact. They do break though. I don't use mine as I only haul Kids and a dumb dog (fox terrier, beagle mix, dumb as a bag of hammers. LOL)

If it were me, check where GM-Tech says and use a meter to check for an open wire (meters are cheap)

Take your plastic steering wheel cover off..........you will see the wire that comes out the bottom of your shifter.........its probably got orange sheething (mine was orange) around two tiny white wires.........one will be broken..............its very common..........just splice and tape up or solder........but its kind of tight to get in there with solder............... :)

What do you mean by this? I guess to access the wiring I will have to take off the plastic pieces behind the steering wheel, like the piece contain that hazard button?
