ericag02 Posted June 23, 2006 Posted June 23, 2006 While I'm driving and steer either left or right, I can usually hear the Steering Pump make hissing noises in the cab (so you know it's louder outside the cab). It is the same noise it makes if you turn the wheel all the way to the left or right, and hold it there. Is this a sign of something going wrong, or is it normal. I have an '04 4x2 LT Crew with 17,500 miles on it.
carneyman Posted June 23, 2006 Posted June 23, 2006 Well, its not normal. Now whether or not its a damaging problem, that depends. I assume you've checked the fluid and steering shaft?

I assume you've checked the fluid and steering shaft? <{POST_SNAPBACK}> The fluids all look good and I have had the intermediate steering shaft replaced by my dealer 10,000 miles ago (steering clunk). This appeared about 2 months ago or so. It hasn't got worse or any better, so at least it's not escalating. It usually only happens after the truck is warmed up and only on certain steering manuvers. It's very strange.

I have this same symptom on my (new) 99 Tahoe..did you ever get a diagnosis..or did it ever get worse? Steering is quiet in a straight line..but turn the slightest bit off the centerline and and the PS starts to hiss or psshhh a bit until you turn back to center...
cdmm151 Posted January 3, 2007 Posted January 3, 2007 Spray some wd 40 on the all over the rubber boots that touches the steering shafts.
