Hey, i have a 1990 chevrolet pickup with a 5.7 350, pushing 252,000 miles. my truck runs fine, minus a small exhaust leak at the manifold. i am trying to go through my truck and bring new life out of it. are there any good staring points for making my truck a mean machine?

Rebuild. You'll need a more agressive cam with that engine cuz she runs out of balls @4000rpm.

i have been thinking about rebuilding it after i get back from my deployment, but alot of people tell me that it would just be better to get a crate engine, and cheaper too... i'd like to rebuild this engine with just a little more balls, but people tell me that it wouldn't be the same in a rebuilt engine instead of a crate motor. any imput or advice?

With a crate motor you have the choice of deciding how big the engine is which could be for your benefit. But on the other hand, you could rebuild and add performance parts like aftermarket intake, exhaust, headers, ect... which might give you the perk your looking for in the engine

I just went with a GM crate replacement motor and added Edelbrck intake, headers,Supercoil, adjustable fuel regulator adjusted to 15 PSI and a Hypertech Powercharger(TBI filter riser) without chips or cam and pumpin' out 245 HP which ain't 50 but, close.

I think if you want 50+ then, cam and heads are what those motors really respond to.

Go to cfm-tech.com and check out some good info
