Michelin LTX M/S tires

Im going to go ahead and upgrade my tires from LT 245/75R16 Firestone Steeltex's to LT 265/75R16 Michelin LTX M/S. I have had the Michelins on my other trucks and absolutely love 'em. My question though What's the difference between load range C and Load range E other than weight capacity. I never tow, and don't haul too much--but was wondering how the extra plys make the ride.

I can't give you personal experience, but I've heard that the 10 ply (load range E) will ride like crap compared to the standard C. I really don't see any reason to go with the higher load range (and fork over more $$$) when you don't think you'll be hauling much of a heavy load with any frequency.

okay, thanks for the input. I'm pretty excited to go from shot stock schocks (say that three times fast) to the monroe reflexs's and from the steeltex's (which suck ) to the michelins and go up in size.

I had E-range LTX before I got my Revo's and they were great tires. I would not put anything but LT tires on a truck. LT tires are for trucks, P-tires are for passenger vehicles. They don't last and they don't perform.

I opted for the load rating C for the reason mentioned above. The ride on the E is stiffer even if you run a lower tire pressure. If I was towing anything WAAAY heavy, I would go with E. I got 80K out of my first set and I'm working on 20K on the newer set. I run them at 40psi unless I'm towing, then I run max rated.

The LTX's are great tires!

 

On your 1/2 ton truck, a "C" load range is more than you'll ever need. In a 265/75/16 it will exceed the carrying capacity of your truck.

 

Buy the "C's and enjoy a great tire, and a decent ride!

Went with LT's in a C both times I replaced tires on my Rado and have enjoyed the ride.

Unless you need an E rating for the type of work you do with your truck, I would opt for the C. E will ride harder and they weigh more causing less MPG. The E is much heavier than the C.

 

Most 265's in a C are even acceptable on a 3/4 ton. A 265 in a C is nearly rated for the same load as a 245 in an E that comes stock on a 3/4 ton.
