fuel gage problem

my fuel guage will randomly move from full to empty. if its at empty i can shake the truck side to side and it will go to full and then to where its accually at then sometime later will go back to empty??? is it a short or a fuel float sticking

You need to replace the fuel level sensor. It is mounted on the sender. You have to pull the tank and take out the pump the access.
