front diff actuator stuck in 'engage' mode

Hey everyone,

My 2000 1500 Z71 front diff actuator is stuck 'on'........I just pulled it out and the spring loaded plunger thingy is out all the way. I can push it back in by hand but then it springs right back out.

What controls this?.........and Im assuming in 2wd this plunger should be 'in'.....not 'out'. Do I have to start the truck for it activate and suck itself back in??

Am I assuming correctly?

  Fair enough, I can see that being a reason. That bulletin was released April 2022. They had 2.5 months to give me a call letting me know the 13k out the door was BS. They also did not tear down my old motor, so really not sure how they inspected the bearing. Either way, truck now having idle issues. I anticipate it going back within the week.

  It did on mine. Completed 3 jobs front and back with no issues whatsoever. First time I put it in service mode without my scan tool, did fine. Next 2 were with the aid of my scan tool to put it in service mode, same result. So I would definitely say it doesn’t hurt at all being that most are equipped with electronic braking/calipers.

  Starting to hear some sketchy unverified rumors about the next gen. HD's, which some are saying should debut late next year: Revised Duramax (some say will still be a 6.6L) and a new gasoline engine, possibly an iron-block Gen VI of unknown displacement. It seems that the Gen. VI's can accommodate a longer stroke than the current Gen. V, so read into that what you will. Revised chassis also featuring the new E-coat as the light duty 2027's will have. The current HD chassis dates to 2011 with a few minor modifications over the years. A medium duty 4500/5500/6500 derivative that will replace the current Silverado Medium Duty. The next gen. HD's will possibly be built at Flint and Oshawa, and medium duty production will move to a GM plant from the International plant, which is in the process of closing. Post whatever HD rumors you hear and we'll see how accurate they turn out to be!
