Pumping air into tires

Recommended Posts

Posted

I have the Silverado hd 2500 and tow a fifth wheel.

I need to bring the pressure up in the rear wheels to 80 psi, when pulling.

I had a pump that runs off of the cigarette lighter but it is not capable of pumping to that pressure. I am looking for another pump. Have seen one that runs off of a battery that you charge in an electrical outlet.

There is also the tank that can carry air.

Does anyone have any advice ? How do you folks pump your tires?

I use  a regular Sears bicycle pump that you use two hands to pump with and a dial type gauge. I'm 55 gives me good exercise. Very accurate. Takes a few pumps to get one pound of pressure increase.

To get to 80, and you dont have an Air Compressor with the tank and everything, the best and easiest way would use the Quarter one at the gas station, and take your own Gauge!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

My cheapo 12v Campbell Hausefield has pumped to 80 several times. If the tire needs about 10 lbs. in it, that will take a long time but it will do it. The label on the pump says it will go to 120 psi.

Craftsman has several.  I've had one for a couple of years to take care of the tractor, etc.  Cordless...12VDC/110VAC.  In fact I've only had to charge it 3 times, I believe.

Do a search at Craftsman.com for "compact compressors".

Good Luck
