Those who have Black coloured Trucks

Hey all.

 

Thinking of trading in my 04-Silverado, (hmmmmm........name change) for the LBZ diesel.

 

Well, more than thinking I will, but my wife an I have been thinking/wanting Black, looks great when clean, but we are wondering if we'll regret it after awhile.

 

So for those of you who do own black or dark vehicles what are your thoughts/opinions now.

I owned a black 1/2 ton Silverado from 99-05 and now own a storm grey 01 HD. While the truck does look sharp in black it is a PITA to keep clean and I am kind of a clean freak. I spent more time cleaning that truck then I do my house. If you do decide to go with the black do yourself a favor and pick up some Zaino polish. It is without a doubt the best stuff for black and will keep it shining like the day you bought it. You have to use it at least once a month however.

 

With that being said I definately prefer my Storm Grey truck now as I can driver it over twice as long before it starts looking dirty. It also hides minor scratches much better than the black. Black looks nice but it is a lot of work. Especially when you consider how much paint you are dealing with on a full size truck. I will never buy another black vehicle again unless it is a small sports car.

As you already know, black is a love affair. It needs constant attention but it's not impossible to maintain. I agree that Zaino is the best way to keep black looking great. I use it on both my Black F250, and Black Z71 Sub. It's the best out there. So, to answer your question... BLACK will always be my color, and its upkeep is made easier with the right tools. No regrets.

IMO, nothing looks better then black on a vehicle and like many said, nothing is harder to keep clean. I have a black truck and a blue truck. I have hard water where I live. I can wash the blue one and hand dry it and it looks great. The black one has to be waxed everytime I wash it if I want it to look really good.

 

Luckily, the black one is a regular cab Sonoma HR, so it only takes about 2 hours to wash and wax it.

For black, what works good for me.... Once I have applied Zaino Z2 i have found that washes are easiest by doing this:

 

Wash, Blade, Wipe, and finish off with Zaino Z-6 Ultra Clean Gloss Enhancer Spray. Takes care of water spotting, streaks, etc. I can do the truck in 1.5 hours in and out. I find that i need to do this every 7 days. I polish the truck / SUV every 3-4 months. The Cali Water Blade keeps me from having to use too much towel drying.

I agree with everything said. I had a black truck and that's the way it will stay. never again. I did use Zaino and it makes the truck look way better than it ever will. I had so many compliments on how it shined after using that stuff. With black, it is a must!

I went back to white and now it's easy, wash, dry, and drive.

Pretty much what I thought ......... I do like the black, but I really don't need the extra work.

 

From October to April either snow, rain slush........May & June dust and rain. August & September, should be alright, might be a little rain.

 

Right now I have the Metalic Sandstone, great for hiding stuff, dirt, scratches but not exactly your eye catching colour.

I have black truck and it is a challenge to keep it looking good. I use Meguairs liquid Tech Wax. It gives an amazing shine and helps conceal swirl marks and fine scratches. It does show the dirt quicker than a lighter colour but when it clean it looks amazing. I use Mothers Liquid Gold car soap and then use the Autodry setting on the Mr. Clean no touch system. Without having to chamois it washing takes about 30 minutes.

Sledr, that Mr. Clean system actually works?? Seems to good to be true. If it really takes care of those hard water spots without drying followed by a coat of Mist and shine, I will have to have one. Can't get my 4dr Long box dry in time before it dries itself and I get spots.

"Black Cars...look better in the shade!" And all around if you ask me.

 

Tips for black rigs...

 

1. Always wash/dry/wax a cool vehicle in the shade!

2. Use a Cali., Blade to cut drying time.

3. Use "The Absorber" for areas the blade missed.

 

Both are available at your local WallyWorld. I can wash and dry my rig in about 20 minutes! Waxing....well, that's another story!
