Grease cap / dust cover

Where can I get another grease cap or dust cover for my truck; a 2001 Silverado 4x4, 1500, 5.3 auto, extra cab shortbox, 6-lug? I had to put a new hub assembly and CV shaft in yesterday and damaged the cap removing it. I called my local dealership, and they told me that is is not necessary. :banghead: I reminded them that it covers the guts of the bearing and was on there from the factory. I got back "well that little cap ain't gonna keep mud and dirt outta there." Gotta love the useless parts guy.

Anyone know the GM Part Number, or at the very least, the size of the cover so I can get another one to tap into place? Thank you very much.

I think they should have them at autozone, pep boys or advance,...look in the "HELP!" brand section.

I ended up getting one from the dealer; they had 2 numbers listed, but only 1 in stock, so I took it. The parts guy said that the hub assembly is sealed, and there is no need for the cap. I explained that it would make me sleep better at night having it covered, and he got it for me. I believe the PN was 15716207. $5.09.

If there was no need for the cap, GM wouldn't put one on to save cost.

I agree with you....it'll make you sleep better at night knowing it's there.

Kind of off topic...but what were the symptoms that made you know to change the front hub. And what about the CV Shaft? Just wondering.
