Aux Lamps

Hey guys,

I have a 2004 2500HD Chevy. It's got a button to the left of the passenger airbag switch labled 'Aux Lamps'. I've looked through the manual but havn't found what this controls.

I do not have the clearance lamps either....

Thoughts??

Also, what's the easiest way to tell what motor I have? I'm 95% sure I have a 6.0 but I guess it could be an 8.1. This is a company truck that I just got....

First: Did you buy it new or used??

Second when you push it do you hear a relay?? Normally that button controll the relay that is used for roof mounted beacons...

This "AUX LIGHT" switch is commonly part of the snow plow prep package that can be ordered on these trucks. Like mentioned, the switch activates a relay that can control roof beacon or strobes. Make sure that it is off even if nothing is connected to it. I believe that it is not controlled by the ignition switch. I believe that it has constant 12 volts to it and if left on, it will drain the battery. I could be wrong.

To identify the engine, lift the hood and there should be a white label on the radiator support or radiator shroud. This white label should specify engine size, belt routing, spark plug gap, etc.

I imagine the company bought (leased) it new. I'm just the one driving it now though.

No, I don't hear a relay.

AH, that makes sense. I don't belive it's hooked up to anything, but the LED does come on when it's pushed. The truck doesn't have a snow plow, but must have the kit for it.

Thanks for the help!

My rig has the snowplow prep package, but no plow. Same button... it is live, so make sure the LED is off if not being utilized.

The button is the on/off switch for a roof beacon. The wires

are deadheaded above the headliner...............The relay is

in the left rear B pillar near the shoulder belt anchor bolt.

ALL VYU snowplow prep. GM trucks will have this button !

The only reason I think it might be for something different is that is is labeled Aux Lights.... my 2004 GMC 2500hd has a little picture od a truck cab and a light on it rather than AUX LIGHTS....unless Chev's use that button and GMC uses a different one. Look in the glove box for the RPO codes and see if there is a VYU code on the list...

In 03 they changed it from say AUX Lights to the symbol showing a truck with a little light on top. I guess to indicate that it is for a beacon.

Right... and he said he has a 2004....so the only way to tell if it is factory is to see if he has RPO code VYU

There is no VYU code in the glovebox.... :(

I know it's never had a snow plow on it.

Whoops!! My bad, I guess I missed that. I have no clue what that would be for if ya dont have the Plow prep package listed in your RPO sheet. Only thing I can guess is that it was added by the dealer for something.
