Original torsion bar position?

I bought a 2004 1 1/2 cab Z71 with 23k mi. about 2 months ago and have noticed that the tires are wearing really bad on the edges after 10k mi.. I have rotated every 3k miles and played with tire pressure. I checked the torsion bars when I changed the oil this last time and the torsion bars are cranked all the way up.

Will cranking up the torsion bars cause any premature wear on the suspension parts?

Where should they be set from the factory? I would like to put them back and have an allignment done.

I am assuming that the car lot I bought it from did this as the tires did not show any premature wear when I picked it up.

Thanks,

Jeff

If an alignment wasn't done after they cranked up the tortion bars, that's your problem. You can't just wind 'em up and go. It throws the alignment all out of whack.

If you want it factory, you'll have to take it in to a place that can get the "Z" height specs and set the height, then align it.

So, you are saying that cranking the torsion bars all the way will not hurt any of the suspension components, or cause them to wear faster?

If so, I'll prolly just leave it and get an alignment when I get new tires in a few weeks.

Thanks,

Jeff

I don't know where you read that in my reply. I don't have that answer and is why I did not comment on it. It'd just be a guess on my part.
