My real GM Truck

I have finally gone "techie" and posted a picture of my "real GM Truck" on my personal profile. No offense to newer truck owners, I have one of them also.

I posted a pic of my 1971 Custom Deluxe SWB. I have owned it for 13 years and it is 100% original, even the paint, seat and flooring. I have the original white wheels but removed them for these 8" GM steel wheels. The exhaust is also not quite original, with dual Vortec mufflers. I will eventually have to paint it but for 35 years old, it has held up pretty well.

Take a look if you want to see a pretty clean '71.

35 years old with original paint ! wow!

It would not look like that if it spent that much time in Ontario. :gmc:

You are right Patrick. The original owner garaged it every day. It has a few thins spots and a nick here and there. I just hate to loose the original paint. I really like the old truck and it is a blast to drive. Runs really strong uses no oil and with the dual Vortec mufflers, it sounds ground.

I will eventually do a frame off and freshen the motor.

Thanks,

Dana 15 you need to work on the shine on that hood. :uhoh:

The color was not my first choice but it is the color it is. When I do decide to paint it, it will stay the same color. If I change it, it will really hurt the value.

Drove it yesterday and it is blast.

How can I copy the picture from my personal profile to here?

Nice truck!!!!

I'm a board member over at 67-72chevytrucks.com and I am building a '67 I've owned since I was 15 (I've owned it for 10 years). I've attached a link to my "build thread" over there (I hope that's ok). It opens up to the most recent pics (about 2 weeks ago) but you can go back to the first page and read through the progress. So far the truck is completely home built and I'm purty proud of it. It's going to be a real nice 10 footer (this is only my second paint job ever) but I only want a nice driver:)

Jesse, I had a chance to check out your 67. It is looking good.

If that would have been my paint job, I would have had to call it my "20 footer". That means it looks good as long as you don't get any closer than 20 ft.

BTW, my 71 still has a point dist. I have wanted to convert it but hate to loose the originality of it under the hood. I am sure it would make it run better and certainly be more reliable.

Thanks :banghead:

The project has come to a standstill for a month or so. I'll be finishing the paintwork labor day weekend, but the 700R4 I put in it 3 years ago (junkyard tranny) is blown and its $$$ to replace it.

Thanks Miles,

One day she will get a full frame off restore. Even then I am going to attempt to retain the factory paint but will "feshen up" the weak spots. I just want to get under it and do some preservation work on the underbody and frame.
