Help! trying to decide what to buy

Hi guys,

I'm trying to decide on a new or slightly used truck. I'm thinking of either a Chevy 1500 or an older (98-style) Ford 150 with a regular cab & standard or short bed. I'm trying to find out which would have the most bang for the buck- both with 4x4, automatic tranny, & a V8. Also I'm trying to figure out what the curb weights are for those two vs. their extended cab counterparts. I drove a new 1500 4x4 with a 5.3 today and it seemed slower than my friend's 4.8 reg cab. Do you know where I could find some weights & 1/4 mile comparisons for these two?

'98 f150 is a pig. I know it weighs more, and it had less power.

 

Imo- Go with a 2000 or newer 1500 silvy or gmc.

If your worried about 1/4m times, do not get a ford. The 5.7 vortec has some potential, but not allot. The 4.8, 5.3, and 6.0 make good power and there is allot of after market support for them.

Thanks for the replies. I've been aggressively looking because my Toyota 4Runner needs a top end rebuild (among other things) and I'm getting tired of dumping money into it. I like the reg cab GMC's the most, but it's tough finding a low mile Sierra (or Silverado) with a 5.3 for a decent price. I was also thinking of going new with the rebates & all, but I think I might just hold off until the new models come out.

*UPDATE*

I found a nice low-mileage GMC Sierra a couple weeks ago & I bought it! It's a 2000 SLE 4x4 regular cab/long bed with the 5.3 V8. It's awesome! Only 39,000 miles on the clock, and I got it for 12K.! It hauls ass! I'm so happy with this truck it's not even funny.

I found a nice low-mileage GMC Sierra a couple weeks ago & I bought it!  It's a 2000 SLE 4x4 regular cab/long bed with the 5.3 V8.  It's awesome!  Only 39,000 miles on the clock, and I got it for 12K.!  It hauls ass! I'm so happy with this truck it's not even funny.
